This site serves as a blog for my pastoral ministry which includes commentary on culture, random topics related to Biblical studies, pastoral ministry, and Christianity in general. The site also serves as an unofficial virtual office for my seminary students and other friends. The goal is to provide encouragement to saints and direction to sinners and seekers.

Lydia - spelling bee champ!

This past February, my daughter, Lydia D. Winstead, won the Scripps regional spelling bee in Florence, SC and punched her ticket to the national spelling me that was scheduled in the D.C. area this May. This is televised annually on ESPN, and expenses for Lydia would be paid. Wow!, what a blessing. We were proud of here and so excited. Recently, however, the spelling bee was suspended, and several days ago, we received the final word that that the Bee has been totally canceled. We’ll try again next time! I am still a very proud father.

Lydia - Spelling Bee winner!

My daughter Lydia (11 years old) recently won the spelling bee at the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Fine Arts competition. This was her 4th time winning! I am very proud of her and I'm blessed of the Lord.

New Testament Philology

Book can be found here

I edited this book in honor of my Greek professor and PhD mentor, David Alan Black. Contributors include Joseph Fantin of Dallas Seminary, Will Varner of the Master's University, Stanley Porter, Philip DuToit, Margaret Sim, Stephen Stout, David Beck, Michael Shepherd, and others. I wrote the chapter on the syn compounds in Ephesians 2 and 3. I found that Paul brokered his message of identity, ecclesiology, and soteriology through use of these compound words.

Mission Work with Chesterfeld County, SC Folks!

Chesterfield County on Mission - CLICK

It was a privilege to work with Chesterfield County folks again this summer. We helped at an orphanage near Galax, VA, and some of the team ministered in local nursing homes, and elsewhere.
